In Jharkhand’s Palamu district, a tragic incident unfolded as a 14-year-old girl was reportedly subjected to rape and murder, with the arrest of the suspect, 21-year-old Arun Kumar, swiftly following the incident. The case, logged on October 18, was efficiently resolved in a matter of days through a dedicated investigation, as per officials.
The Medininagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mani Bhusan Prasad disclosed that the young girl had left her home on the evening of October 16 under the guise of visiting her cousin’s residence.
Upon her failure to return the following day, her family initiated a search and discovered that she had not reached her cousin’s place. It was around 4:30 pm on October 17 when her lifeless body was retrieved from a pond near the village, as per Prasad.
Kumar allegedly intercepted the girl during her journey, sexually assaulted her at a secluded location, and subsequently ended her life by strangulation. “Subsequently, the perpetrator strangled her and disposed of her body in the pond. Her phone was discarded in the pond, while her footwear and garments were discovered in a well,” the SDPO elaborated.
Upon the discovery of the body, the police initiated an inquiry leading to the apprehension of Kumar, who purportedly admitted to the crime. “After committing the murder, the accused purportedly dumped the body in a pond and discarded her attire in a well,” an officer stated.
The body has been dispatched for post-mortem examination, with forensic outcomes awaited. The police confirmed that ongoing investigations were in progress.
