A clash erupted between supporters of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) in Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on Sunday night, as reported by the police. The tension escalated in the locality following an alleged assault on a local CPI(M) leader by SDPI activists on Sunday evening, according to Nedumangad police.
Subsequently, unidentified individuals reportedly targeted the residences of SDPI members. Later that night, masked individuals were observed vandalizing an ambulance and a car belonging to an SDPI supporter, according to the police. Additionally, in a suspected retaliatory move, an ambulance belonging to the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the CPI(M), and parked near a government hospital, was set on fire early Monday morning.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain any connection between the incidents and to identify the perpetrators. Patrols have been increased in the area to prevent further violence, officials stated.
