“IPS Officer’s Suicide Case Unravels Corruption Scandal”

CCTV footage has surfaced in the suicide case involving IPS Y Puran Kumar and ASI Sandeep Kumar, revealing IPS Kumar’s personal security officer (PSO), Sushil Kumar, allegedly requesting a monthly payment of Rs 2.5 lakh from liquor businessman Praveen Bansal. The footage, captured on July 9 at Bansal’s office in Sector One, has become a crucial piece of evidence.

Following a complaint by Bansal and based on the CCTV and audio recordings, Rohtak Urban Estate police took Sushil Kumar into custody on October 6. Bansal claimed that the demand was made in the name of IG Kumar.

IPS Puran Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer, tragically took his own life at his Chandigarh residence on October 7. Prior to his death, he penned an eight-page note implicating 15 senior IPS and IAS officers, including DGP Shatrugjit Kapoor and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijaraniya, of harassment. Following the revelations in the note, SP Bijaraniya was relieved of his position, and DGP Kapoor was placed on extended leave.

ASI Sandeep Kumar, who was investigating corruption allegations against Puran Kumar and his PSO, also committed suicide on October 14. In a three-page note and a video, he accused Puran Kumar and his associates of engaging in bribery, extortion, and mistreatment of female officers. Sandeep Kumar also alleged a connection between Puran Kumar and gangster Rao Inderjit to manipulate criminal cases.

The sequence of events unfolded as follows:
– September 29 – Puran Kumar’s transfer to Sunaria Police Training College led to distress.
– October 1 – PSO Sushil Kumar was detained without a warrant while traveling with Kumar and interrogated for five days.
– October 6 – An FIR was lodged against Sushil Kumar under the Prevention of Corruption Act for attempting to extort Rs 2.5 lakh from Bansal, with ASI Lathar assisting in the investigation.

After Puran Kumar’s demise, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) requested his wife, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, to hand over his official laptop for forensic examination. She raised concerns about the IT team’s handling of the laptop and alleged misrepresentation of the case despite her cooperation.

Allegations surfaced that Puran Kumar had struck a deal worth Rs 50 crore with gangster Rao Inderjit to resolve a murder case. Rao Inderjit, known for his involvement in criminal activities, has been linked to various incidents, including attacks on YouTuber Elvish Yadav and singer Fazilpuria.

The ongoing investigation, initially centered on harassment and caste bias, has expanded to include claims of corruption, extortion, and a connection between gangs and law enforcement. Investigators are scrutinizing CCTV footage and other materials as part of their probe.
