A 23-year-old second-year student at a private medical college in Durgapur, West Bengal, who was reportedly sexually assaulted on October 10, has been discharged from the hospital following an improvement in her health condition, officials confirmed on Saturday.
As per a medical bulletin released by the hospital, the decision to release the woman was made after a thorough medical assessment conducted by a team of healthcare professionals.
“Our specialized medical team ensured her physical and mental well-being. After a comprehensive evaluation, she was deemed suitable for discharge following discussions with her parents,” the statement mentioned.
The survivor has been relocated to the college guest house under police protection, stated a senior police official. Authorities plan to request a test identification (TI) parade of the suspects on October 22, the date of the next court hearing in the matter.
The survivor’s father, who had been in Durgapur for about a week, returned to Odisha, his home state, on Friday.
The incident occurred when the woman was allegedly assaulted by several individuals while out for dinner with a male friend from the same institution on the evening of October 10. To date, six individuals, including the survivor’s classmate, have been apprehended.
