“Mother of Indian Cricketer Prays for Injured Player”

In a touching display of compassion that has resonated with cricket enthusiasts nationwide, the mother of India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav was filmed offering prayers for a swift recovery for Shreyas Iyer during the Chhath Puja festival. The heartfelt video, posted on Instagram by Suryakumar’s sister, swiftly gained traction on social media, with fans praising the Yadav family’s empathy and concern for Iyer.

In the video, Suryakumar’s mother can be heard expressing, “I want to urge everyone to pray for Shreyas Iyer’s speedy healing. I heard yesterday that he is not feeling well, and it deeply saddened me.” The clip has struck a chord with many, with netizens commending her kindness and the strong bond shared among players’ families.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer remains under medical care in a hospital in Sydney following a severe injury sustained during the third ODI against Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) disclosed that Iyer suffered a spleen laceration with internal bleeding while attempting a challenging catch to dismiss Alex Carey off Harshit Rana’s delivery. Despite initially leaving the field with assistance, Iyer’s condition deteriorated, necessitating immediate hospitalization. Subsequent scans revealed a ruptured spleen and a lower left rib cage injury, leading to his transfer to the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.

According to the BCCI, prompt identification of the injury and halting of internal bleeding were carried out. “His condition is now stable, and he remains under observation. A follow-up scan conducted on Tuesday, 28 October, showed significant progress, and Shreyas is on the path to recovery,” the board stated. The medical team, in collaboration with specialists in Sydney and India, will continue to oversee his recovery process.

Ahead of the T20I series opener against Australia in Canberra, Suryakumar Yadav expressed relief at hearing about Shreyas Iyer’s improving health. “We are not medical experts. Initially, when we saw the catch taken by Shreyas, it appeared normal to us,” Suryakumar remarked. “But later, we learned about the severity of his condition, requiring immediate attention. We spoke to him afterward. Hearing him speak normally reassured us because the medical professionals informed us that it was an unfortunate incident that rarely occurs. However, rare incidents can happen to exceptional talents.”

Suryakumar added, “He is making a good recovery, with the support of doctors and the full backing of the BCCI. He will soon be back on his feet, and we will bring him home with us.”

Reports suggest that Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the head of medical services at BCCI, commended the swift response of the on-field medical team, which helped prevent a potentially critical situation. It is anticipated that Iyer’s family members will soon travel to Sydney to be by his side as he continues his recuperation.
