A shocking crime in Mauaima, Prayagraj has taken a disturbing turn with the arrest of a woman accused of brutally attacking her brother-in-law and mutilating his private parts. The incident unfolded when 20-year-old Umesh, son of Ram Asare from Malkhanpur village, was discovered bleeding profusely in his room on the night of October 16. His family rushed him to the hospital after finding him with severe stab wounds and his private parts severed.
Initially reported as an assault by an “unknown assailant,” the investigation grew tense as the motive behind the attack remained unclear. However, as the police delved deeper, they uncovered a complex family dynamic. Umesh had developed a close relationship with his elder brother Uday’s wife’s younger sister, leading to intimacy and vows of marriage between them.
Despite the growing bond, family opposition arose due to the close relation between Umesh and the sister. Umesh eventually distanced himself from the relationship, showing interest in another woman, which deeply affected the younger sister. Witnessing her distress, Uday’s wife, Manju, harbored resentment towards Umesh, allegedly fueling her desire for revenge.
On the fateful night of the attack, Manju waited until everyone was asleep, then armed herself with a kitchen knife and assaulted Umesh in his room, stabbing him multiple times and severing his private parts. She fled the scene before the family could intervene, leaving Umesh in critical condition.
Following a thorough investigation and interviews, suspicion turned towards Manju, whose inconsistent statements strengthened the case against her. ACP Vivek Kumar Yadav stated, “The sister-in-law was directly involved in the attack due to her anger over her brother-in-law’s decision to end the relationship with her younger sister.”
Currently evading authorities, Manju is on the run, while Umesh is recovering from extensive surgery. Doctors have confirmed his stable condition but anticipate a lengthy recovery period of possibly seven to eight months.
