A woman of Indian descent, aged 44, was taken into custody in Mecklenburg County for allegedly cutting her husband’s neck with a knife during a disagreement related to household duties, as per US authorities. Identified as Chandraprabha Singh, she was charged with intentionally causing harm to her husband by slashing his neck, as per an arrest warrant referenced by a local news outlet in North Carolina.
Following the incident, which took place on Foxhaven Drive in Charlotte’s Ballantyne area on October 12 around 10:49 am, the victim, Arvind Singh, was already hospitalized by the time law enforcement officials arrived. While the severity of the injuries sustained by the victim was not explicitly mentioned, Chandraprabha faced a charge of assault with a deadly weapon causing significant harm.
In her defense, Chandraprabha Singh claimed that the cutting incident was accidental, explaining that it occurred while she was turning around with a knife in hand during breakfast preparation. Despite her assertion, she was detained by detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Domestic Violence Unit on October 12.
After interrogation, she was handed over to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and formally accused of assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury. The police clarified that the episode did not involve any individuals associated with the school and was unrelated to school premises. Chandraprabha Singh, who worked for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as a teaching assistant, was released on bond amounting to $10,000 on October 13, under the condition of electronic monitoring and refraining from contacting her husband.
During her court appearance, she was assigned a public defender. Subsequently, she was equipped with an electronic monitoring device and strictly instructed to maintain distance from her husband. Singh’s employment as a teaching assistant for grades K–3 at Endhaven Elementary School in the Ballantyne area was also highlighted in the report.
