JD Vance Defends Wife’s Hindu Faith Amid Criticism

US Vice President JD Vance recently addressed criticism regarding his wife, Usha Vance’s Hindu faith, stating that she is not a Christian and has no intention of converting. Vance defended his remarks, rejecting accusations that he disrespected his wife’s religion in public.

In response to the backlash, Vance expressed his frustration, calling the comments against him “disgusting” and accusing his critics of displaying “anti-Christian bigotry.” He clarified that the question about his interfaith marriage was posed by someone with differing views and that as a public figure, he chose to address it openly.

The controversy stemmed from Vance’s comments at a university event where he expressed his desire for his wife, who was raised Hindu, to eventually embrace Christianity. Despite mentioning that she occasionally attends church with him and their children being raised as Christians, his remarks received online backlash for seemingly disregarding her Hindu background.

Speaking at a Turning Point USA event, Vance shared his hope that his wife would be moved by his Christian beliefs, emphasizing that differences in faith had never caused conflicts in their marriage. Following the criticism, Vance clarified on social media that his wife has no plans to convert but expressed his aspiration for her to share his perspective one day.

Highlighting the importance of open dialogue about faith within their relationship, Vance affirmed his unconditional love and support for his wife. He defended his decision to publicly address the question, citing his position as a public figure and the public’s curiosity about his personal life.

Moreover, Vance credited his wife for inspiring his reconnection with Christianity in the past, underscoring her significant role in his spiritual journey. He denounced what he perceived as a growing bias against Christians, asserting that it is normal for individuals to share their beliefs with others.

JD Vance and his wife, Usha, who is of Indian descent, have a background that includes meeting at Yale Law School and raising two children together.
