Pakistan has recently implemented flight restrictions across its central and southern airspace, coinciding with India’s upcoming military exercise, Trishul, near the border. The notification, known as Notam (notice to airmen), is in effect for October 28-29. While Pakistan has not provided a specific reason for this action, experts speculate that it could be related to a military drill or potential weapons testing.
This development follows India’s issuance of a Notam for a significant tri-services military exercise near Sir Creek along the Pakistan border scheduled from October 30 to November 10. Such tit-for-tat maneuvers between India and Pakistan, like issuing Notams for military exercises along their borders, have become common since Operation Sindoor.
Analyst Damien Symon shared satellite images revealing that the airspace allocated for the Trishul exercise extends up to 28,000 feet, marking it as a notable joint operational drill. The Defense Ministry stated that the exercise involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force aims to showcase joint operational capabilities, self-reliance, and innovation within the armed forces.
Troops from the Southern Command will actively participate in validating joint operations across various terrains, including offensive maneuvers in creek and desert sectors, amphibious operations off the Saurashtra coast, and joint multi-domain operational exercises. While these exercises are routine readiness measures, Pakistan’s Notam issuance indicates its vigilance towards India’s border activities post-Operation Sindoor.
Notably, India’s exercise near the Sir Creek-Sindh-Karachi axis comes shortly after Defense Minister Rajnath Singh warned Pakistan against any misadventures in the Sir Creek region during a recent address to troops. The Sir Creek area, a strategic marshland between Gujarat and Sindh in Pakistan, holds significance for security and military planning due to its influence on key sea routes.
Intelligence reports suggesting Pakistan’s intensified military infrastructure construction in the area prompted the Defense Minister’s cautionary remarks. Consequently, India’s extensive military exercise near the Pakistani border carries substantial importance in the current geopolitical context.
