“Pakistan & Afghanistan Agree on Ceasefire Monitoring”

Pakistan and Afghanistan have reached an agreement to uphold a delicate ceasefire following peace discussions in Istanbul, as announced by Turkey’s Foreign Ministry. The Taliban issued a warning to Pakistan, urging them to cease spreading their domestic issues across the border.

A statement from Turkey’s Foreign Ministry indicated that all parties have agreed to establish a monitoring and verification mechanism to ensure peace is maintained and penalties are imposed on violators.

Recent talks, facilitated by Turkey and Qatar, came after escalating border tensions that resulted in casualties on both sides. Despite initial concerns of collapse, the ceasefire has held, with no new clashes reported. A higher-level meeting is scheduled in Istanbul on November 6 to finalize the implementation framework.

Taliban’s Acting Interior Minister Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani cautioned Pakistan against involving its internal conflicts in Afghanistan, asserting that such actions would have severe consequences for Pakistanis. He emphasized the need for Pakistan to address its issues domestically without imposing them on Afghanistan.

In response, Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid expressed Kabul’s commitment to resolving disputes through diplomatic means. Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif confirmed his country’s willingness to “give peace another chance” at the request of Qatar and Turkey.

Officials in Islamabad reiterated that Pakistan’s primary demand remains unchanged, emphasizing the need for Afghanistan to take decisive action against militant groups operating from its territory to prevent terrorism against Pakistan.

Recent tensions between the two countries included accusations from Kabul of Pakistani airstrikes in the Afghan capital and a marketplace bombing in the east. Islamabad defended its operations as targeting militant hideouts within Afghanistan, with differing casualty figures reported by each side.

The ongoing dialogue and efforts to maintain peace reflect the complex dynamics between Pakistan and Afghanistan, with both sides striving for stability and mutual respect.
