Sandesh Jhingan Urges AIFF Action Amid ISL Crisis

Indian’s experienced defender Sandesh Jhingan has expressed frustration regarding the current uncertainty surrounding the Indian Super League (ISL), urging the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to promptly address the escalating crisis.

The top-tier football competition in the country is yet to finalize its schedule, with various clubs halting operations due to financial and administrative uncertainties. Jhingan emphasized the situation has come to a “standstill,” affecting fans, coaches, staff, players, and everyone involved in Indian football.

In a statement, Jhingan highlighted that the ongoing impasse is significantly impacting players and the broader football ecosystem. The AIFF has faced criticism for its handling of the situation, stemming from the unsuccessful tender process for the ISL’s broadcast, sponsorship, and digital rights.

Launched on October 16, the tender aimed to attract new partners following the strained relationship between the AIFF and Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL). With the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) between the two parties set to expire in December 2025, the lack of agreement has left the ISL without clear direction or structure.

The AIFF has resorted to seeking guidance from the Supreme Court on the next steps. The crisis has already led to clubs like Kerala Blasters, Odisha FC, and Mohun Bagan Super Giant temporarily suspending operations post their Super Cup exits due to uncertainties surrounding Indian football’s calendar and finances.

The uncertainty surrounding the league’s future has raised concerns, with senior players like Jhingan demanding accountability and swift action to safeguard the sport’s credibility. If a resolution is not reached promptly, the long-term survival of the ISL and the future of numerous Indian footballers could be in jeopardy.
