Meghalaya’s Choudhary Smashes Record: 8 Sixes in a Row

Meghalya’s Akash Kumar Choudhary made history by hitting eight consecutive sixes in a first-class cricket match on November 9. This remarkable feat occurred during the Ranji Trophy plate group game against Arunachal Pradesh at Pithwala Stadium in Surat. Choudhary also set the record for the fastest fifty in first-class cricket, remaining unbeaten on 50 from just 14 balls as Meghalaya declared their first innings at 628/6.

Choudhary’s explosive performance saw him smashing eight consecutive sixes, including six in a single over, joining the esteemed company of legendary players such as Sir Garfield Sobers and Ravi Shastri, who have achieved the same feat in first-class cricket. Sobers accomplished this in 1968, while Shastri replicated it during the 1984-85 Ranji Trophy season.

During his blitzkrieg, Choudhary targeted Arunachal Pradesh’s left-arm spinner Limar Dabi, reaching his blistering fifty in just 11 deliveries, breaking the previous record held by Wayne White. Choudhary’s onslaught propelled Meghalaya to declare their innings, with other significant contributions coming from Arpit Bhatewara, captain Kishan Lyngdoh, and Rahul Dalal.

Choudhary’s innings not only made a mark in the record books but also played a crucial role in Meghalaya’s commanding total. His extraordinary display of power hitting left a lasting impression on the match, solidifying his place in cricket history.
