The notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang continues to sow unrest in various parts of Canada. In the most recent incident, the gang took credit for firing multiple shots outside Punjabi singer Chani Nattan’s residence in British Columbia. This attack occurred shortly after Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Cafe, a popular comedian and actor’s establishment, was targeted for the third time in less than four months, raising concerns about organized crime and gang violence that transcend borders.
In a social media declaration, the gang admitted to the shooting, citing Nattan’s increasing association with fellow Punjabi singer Sardar Khera as the motive. It is important to note that Canada officially labeled the Lawrence Bishnoi gang a terrorist organization last month.
A statement attributed to Goldy Dhillon, reportedly a member of the Bishnoi gang, explained the rationale behind targeting Nattan’s home, linking it to Sardar Khera. The message warned any singer collaborating with or having ties to Khera in the future would face consequences, as the gang intends to cause significant harm to Khera without personal animosity towards Nattan.
A widely circulated video on social media captured the shooting incident, showing multiple gunshots fired at the property with no reported injuries.
WHO IS CHANI NATTAN?
Chani Nattan, born on October 31, 1991, in Surrey, British Columbia, hails from a Punjabi family that migrated to Canada. He gained prominence in the mid-2010s for his Punjabi music compositions, known for their narrative depth and collaborations with other artists. Nattan’s music blends traditional Punjabi elements with modern beats, resonating with the youth in both India and Canada.
He has established himself as a key figure in the Punjabi music industry abroad, actively collaborating with producers and singers from Punjab while being based in Canada. Nattan’s songs often touch on themes of resilience, cultural identity, and pride, with “Daku” being one of his highly acclaimed tracks for its impactful lyrics. Additionally, he collaborated with actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh on the song “Umbrella” in 2021, showcasing his songwriting skills.
BISHNOI GANG’S IMPACT ON CANADA
This recent attack on Nattan’s residence is not the first instance of the Bishnoi gang targeting prominent figures in Surrey. Earlier in October, Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Cafe in Surrey faced its third attack within four months, with Goldy Dhillon and Kulveer (Kuldeep) Sidhu claiming responsibility on social media.
The assault on the cafe occurred shortly after it reopened with enhanced security measures following previous attacks in July and August. These incidents highlight Surrey’s ongoing struggle with organized crime within its significant South Asian community, where extortion schemes and gang conflicts have been on the rise.
