Apple’s iPhone 18 lineup is still over a year away from its official unveiling, but leaks surrounding the next-generation Pro models are already hinting at significant improvements. The upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to feature advancements in camera technology, display design, and the introduction of Apple’s first fully in-house modem, potentially making them some of the most advanced iPhones to date.

While the overall design of the iPhone 18 Pro series may not undergo a dramatic transformation compared to the current iPhone 17 Pro, certain refinements are in store. The devices are likely to maintain a similar shape with a raised triangular triple-camera setup on the rear. Display sizes are expected to remain unchanged at 6.3 inches for the iPhone 18 Pro and 6.9 inches for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple is rumored to enhance the MagSafe area with a slightly transparent Ceramic Shield design, focusing on improving the build quality rather than a complete redesign.

A standout feature anticipated for the iPhone 18 Pro is the potential inclusion of under-display Face ID technology, a long-anticipated innovation that could provide a nearly full-screen experience by relocating the Face ID sensors beneath the display. Reports suggest that while Apple might slim down the current Dynamic Island, a fully hidden Face ID system may not debut until later iterations.

Under the hood, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to be powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 3nm process. The key improvement lies in the new CoWoS packaging technique, enhancing integration between the CPU, GPU, memory, and Neural Engine. This advancement is poised to enhance the device’s on-device AI capabilities, aligning with Apple’s focus on local data processing within its “Apple Intelligence” ecosystem.

Apple is also rumored to introduce its own C2 modem with the iPhone 18 Pro series, promising improved connectivity, energy efficiency, and mmWave 5G support in the US. As for the release strategy, reports suggest that Apple will adopt a two-phase launch cycle for its next-gen iPhones. The iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the rumored iPhone Fold are expected to debut in September 2026, followed by the regular iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e in spring 2027. This new approach allows Apple to prioritize flagship and foldable models initially before introducing mid-tier options later on.
