Apple has appointed Amar Subramanya, an Indian-origin AI expert, as the new AI vice president, replacing John Giannandrea. Subramanya’s vast experience in artificial intelligence positions him well to lead AI development at Apple under the guidance of software chief Craig Federighi. He is set to focus on key areas such as Apple Foundation Models and Machine Learning.

Apple currently faces challenges in its AI capabilities and is projected to invest $1 billion in utilizing Gemini for Siri next year. Subramanya’s expertise is expected to boost Apple’s standing in the AI competition, strengthening its position in the industry.

Amar Subramanya’s professional background includes a recent role as the corporate vice president of AI at Microsoft, following a significant tenure at Google where he transitioned from a staff research scientist to VP of engineering. Notably, he was instrumental in the development of the Gemini AI assistant during his time at Google.

Subramanya holds a Bachelor’s in Engineering from Bangalore University and pursued his PhD at the University of Wisconsin. His diverse career path and substantial experience in leading AI projects make him a valuable addition to Apple’s team, poised to drive advancements in artificial intelligence technology.
