United States President Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a speech to Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) business leaders in South Korea. Trump recounted his efforts to prevent a potential conflict between India and Pakistan earlier this year, claiming he used trade pressure to halt hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
Expressing optimism about a future trade deal with India, Trump mentioned his positive relationship with both New Delhi and Islamabad. He emphasized that the U.S. would not engage in trade negotiations with India or Pakistan while they were in conflict.
Trump’s remarks about mediating peace between India and Pakistan have been met with skepticism, as India has refuted any third-party involvement in the bilateral ceasefire agreement reached between the two countries.
