India is close to eliminating Naxalism-Maoist terrorism, with more than 100 districts being liberated from this threat set to celebrate Diwali with dignity this year, announced Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. Speaking to the armed forces aboard INS Vikrant off the Goa coast, PM Modi commended the courage of the security forces, highlighting their significant achievements in combating Maoist terrorism. He noted that their efforts had reduced the Maoist influence to just 11 districts, down from 125 districts a decade ago.
PM Modi praised the valor and bravery of the security forces for the country’s recent milestone in eradicating Maoist terrorism. He emphasized that the nation is on the brink of being free from Naxal-Maoist terror. Prior to 2014, nearly 125 districts in India were plagued by Maoist violence, but this number has drastically decreased to only 11 districts due to the government’s strategic actions over the past decade. PM Modi pointed out that out of these 11 districts, only three are still under Maoist influence.
Highlighting the progress made, PM Modi mentioned that over 100 districts have now been liberated from Maoist terror, allowing the residents to celebrate Diwali freely. He recalled how Maoists obstructed development by preventing the construction of schools, roads, and hospitals, resorting to violent acts like destroying educational and healthcare facilities and targeting medical professionals.
PM Modi also discussed the positive transformation taking place in these regions, where infrastructure projects are underway, new businesses are emerging, and educational and healthcare facilities are laying the foundation for a better future for children. He credited the security forces for their sacrifices, dedication, and bravery in achieving these successes.
Expressing his joy, PM Modi mentioned that many districts in the country will celebrate Diwali with pride, honor, and dignity for the first time, thanks to the collective efforts in countering Maoist terrorism.
