Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav has reached out to AB de Villiers, seeking guidance to rejuvenate his One Day International (ODI) career. Yadav, who featured in India’s World Cup 2023 squad and played in the final defeat against Australia, transitioned from T20 cricket to ODIs at the selectors’ behest, but the shift did not yield the desired results.
With 37 ODIs under his belt, Yadav amassed 773 runs at an average of 25.76, including four half-centuries. Criticism followed Yadav’s performance in the World Cup 2023 final, leading to his omission from the 50-over setup since then.
In a conversation with Vimal Kumar, Yadav expressed his desire to seek advice from former South African captain De Villiers on effectively managing both ODI and T20 formats. Yadav admitted to a misconception that ODIs should mirror T20 gameplay and emphasized his eagerness to learn from De Villiers to optimize his cricketing journey in the upcoming years.
Reflecting on De Villiers’ illustrious career, the South African stalwart excelled in both ODIs and T20Is, amassing 9577 runs in 228 ODIs and 1672 runs in 78 T20Is.
Yadav’s plea to De Villiers for guidance underscores his commitment to enhancing his ODI performances and achieving a balance between different formats of the game, aiming for sustained success in the years ahead.
