Washington Sundar’s exceptional performance as a versatile all-rounder for India was acknowledged with the ‘Impact Player of the Series’ award following India’s 2-1 victory in the T20I series against Australia. In a video shared by the BCCI titled “Dressing Room BTS,” Sundar expressed his gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the significance of the award after a successful tour in Australia.
Sundar’s pivotal role was evident throughout the series, showcasing his increasing importance to India’s T20 squad. He played crucial innings when needed, such as in the third T20I in Hobart, where he scored 49 runs off 23 balls, guiding India to a vital win. His versatility shone again in the fourth match, where his three-wicket burst in five balls triggered an Australian collapse, securing a 48-run victory for India.
Leading India to a series victory, Captain Suryakumar Yadav commended Sundar’s adaptability with both bat and ball, highlighting his consistent contributions in various roles. Sundar, appreciative of the award, thanked the support staff, especially Rahil Khaja, for their tireless efforts behind the scenes.
Khaja, visibly emotional, reflected on the team’s success, acknowledging the collective effort that led to India’s triumph in Australia. Sundar’s impressive T20I and Test records further underline his value as a player, with notable bowling and batting statistics. The ‘Impact Player of the Series’ accolade, introduced by the BCCI, aims to recognize significant contributors in bilateral series like Sundar.
