OnePlus is gearing up for a strong finish to the year with the impending launch of the OnePlus 15R. Following the earlier release of the OnePlus 15, the company is now focusing on unveiling its next feature-packed smartphone. The official microsite is already live, confirming several specifications for the upcoming device that promise a significant improvement over the OnePlus 13R. From a revamped design to a larger battery capacity, here are the six key enhancements anticipated for the upcoming OnePlus 15R.
Prior to delving into the detailed specifications, let’s first address the launch date and availability. The OnePlus 15R is set to be officially launched in India on December 17, coinciding with the debut of the OnePlus Pad Go 2. Following its unveiling, the phone will be made available for purchase through Amazon, the OnePlus India website, and authorized retail partners nationwide. The timing of the release indicates OnePlus’ intent to position the 15R as a flagship offering for those seeking an upgrade before the onset of 2026.
OnePlus 15R vs OnePlus 13R: Anticipated Upgrades
1. Redesigned Build: The upcoming OnePlus 15R has introduced a fresh design language, moving away from the circular camera module of the 13R in favor of a sleek square cutout similar to the OnePlus 15. The device is expected to feature a flat metal frame, enhancing both durability and a premium appearance.
2. Enhanced Durability: The 15R is rumored to boast IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, a significant upgrade from the 13R’s IP65 rating. This enhanced protection ensures superior resistance to dust and water, making it a more robust companion for daily use.
Performance: OnePlus has confirmed that the phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, a notable advancement from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 used in the OnePlus 13R. This chipset offers cutting-edge performance, improved thermal efficiency, and advanced AI capabilities. Coupled with LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, users can expect seamless multitasking, enhanced gaming experiences, and swift app loading speeds.
Battery Upgrade: The OnePlus 15R will feature a massive 7,400mAh battery, the largest ever seen in a OnePlus device. This capacity surpasses the 7,300mAh battery in the OnePlus 15 and far exceeds the 6,000mAh battery of the 13R. The battery is designed to support long gaming, streaming, and productivity sessions, utilizing Silicon Nanostack technology to maintain at least 80% capacity even after four years of use. Additionally, the device is anticipated to offer 80W fast charging capabilities, minimizing downtime despite the increased battery size.
Display: The OnePlus 15R is expected to sport a 6.7-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate, matching the specifications of the OnePlus 15. This marks a slight upgrade from the 13R’s 6.78-inch 120Hz panel, enhancing responsiveness during scrolling and gaming activities. The display can achieve peak brightness of 1,800 nits for improved outdoor visibility and can dim down to 1 nit for comfortable nighttime usage. It also features TV Rheinland Intelligent Eye Care 5.0 certification to reduce eye strain during prolonged usage.
Camera and Imaging Enhancements: The OnePlus 15R will introduce a refined dual-camera system, comprising a 50-megapixel Sony IMX906 primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) and an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens. For selfies and video calls, a 32-megapixel front camera is expected. Despite moving away from the 13R’s triple-camera setup, the new sensors and enhanced processing capabilities aim to deliver more consistent photography results across varying lighting conditions.
OnePlus 15R Launch: Expected Pricing in India
The OnePlus 15R is projected to be priced between Rs 45,000 and Rs 50,000 in India, slightly higher than the launch price of the 13R at Rs 42,999. This pricing adjustment is justified by the inclusion of a more powerful chipset, a larger battery, and an upgraded design. As the launch date approaches, the OnePlus 15R appears poised to represent a significant leap forward for the series, blending flagship performance with extended battery life and an updated design. For those considering an upgrade, the OnePlus 15R is certainly a device to keep an eye on this December.
