India’s T20I skipper, Surkumar Yadav, showcased his prowess during the first T20I against Australia at Manuka Oval in Canberra. Yadav’s explosive innings of 39* (24) included three fours and two sixes, propelling him into an exclusive club of players who have hit 150 sixes in T20Is. With this achievement, he joined the likes of Martin Guptill, Jos Buttler, Muhammad Waseem, and his teammate Rohit Sharma.
Yadav, with 150 maximums in 86 innings, has amassed 2709 runs at an average of 37.62, featuring four centuries and 21 fifties. In the match, he partnered with Shubman Gill to compile an unbeaten 62* off 35 balls before rain halted play.
The first T20I was eventually washed out due to persistent rainfall. India’s openers, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, got off to a solid start, adding 35 runs for the first wicket in quick time. However, Nathan Ellis dismissed Sharma, paving the way for Yadav to join forces with Gill. The duo was just getting into their attacking groove when rain forced an early end to the game.
As a result, the series will now head to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the second T20I on October 31.
