Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has emphasized the importance of letting Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli focus on their game without being weighed down by discussions about their age as they prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Srikkanth commended Rohit and Kohli for their stellar performance in the recent ODI against Australia in Sydney, suggesting that it was time for selectors to confirm their spots for the upcoming World Cup, scheduled in two years.
In the match, Rohit Sharma, 38, and Virat Kohli, 36, displayed a remarkable partnership of 168 runs, leading India to a dominant nine-wicket victory over Australia. Rohit’s unbeaten 121 and Kohli’s 74 not out marked a significant turnaround for Kohli, who struggled in the previous matches in Perth and Adelaide.
Following their return to international cricket after a break, there was much speculation about Rohit and Kohli’s form. Despite initial doubts, Rohit’s exceptional performance in the series, amassing 202 runs, silenced critics. His remarkable innings in Sydney showcased his regained form and confidence, reminiscent of his outstanding performance in the 2019 World Cup.
Expressing his views on a YouTube channel, Srikkanth endorsed Rohit’s potential for the 2027 World Cup, urging selectors to focus on his current form rather than his age. He also praised Kohli’s fitness, suggesting that the player could continue playing until the age of 45 due to his exceptional physical condition.

Srikkanth advised selectors to support Rohit and Kohli, ensuring they feel valued and integral to the team’s plans for the World Cup. Rather than adding pressure, Srikkanth emphasized the importance of building the team around these experienced players.
