South Africa’s skipper, Temba Bavuma, is relying on the team’s spin bowlers to secure a series victory in India. The Proteas have not clinched a Test series in India since 1999-2000 when Hansie Cronje led them to success. This time, they are banking on the trio of Keshav Maharaj, Senthuran Muthuswamy, and Simon Harmer to make an impact.
During the recent two-Test series against Pakistan, the trio impressively took a total of 33 wickets. Bavuma expressed confidence in their spin resources and highlighted Tristan Stubbs as another off-spinner option if needed. He emphasized the importance of the bowlers being able to take 20 wickets and stated that they are well-prepared to tackle any spin threats in the upcoming series.
With South Africa being the reigning World Test Champions, Bavuma acknowledged the significant opportunity and high expectations on the team to make history by winning a Test series in India. Despite the absence of key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and R Ashwin, Bavuma believes that the young talent in the team can step up and provide a tough challenge to South Africa.
The South African captain acknowledged the difficulty of playing in India but remained optimistic about the team’s preparation and determination to give their best performance. The much-anticipated India vs South Africa Test series is set to commence on November 14.
