India’s all-rounder, Deepti Sharma, expressed joy at Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledging her Lord Hanuman tattoo and Instagram bio featuring Lord Ram. The Indian women’s cricket team visited PM Modi at his residence in Delhi post their World Cup victory. During the meeting, PM Modi referred to Deepti as ‘DSP’ and mentioned noticing her Lord Hanuman tattoo on her left arm.
PM Modi also noted Deepti’s ‘Jai Shree Ram’ mention in her Instagram bio. Reflecting on the encounter, Deepti Sharma described it as an incredible experience, expressing surprise at the Prime Minister’s familiarity with her. She shared, “It was an amazing experience. While we were waiting to meet the Prime Minister, we were all so excited, wondering how it would feel. When we met him, it felt so good. He mentioned Hanuman ji, and also brought up my Instagram bio he said, ‘I saw your profile; you’ve written Jai Shri Ram.’ Hearing that from such a great leader, knowing he actually follows and knows about us that felt incredible. He said, ‘Keep going, keep working hard, my blessings are with all of you.’ That meant a lot,” as told to India Today.
Deepti played a crucial role in India’s World Cup victory with her exceptional all-round performance. The 28-year-old was named Player of the Tournament for scoring 215 runs from seven innings, including three half-centuries. Moreover, Deepti emerged as the top wicket-taker of the tournament, claiming 22 wickets from nine innings at an average of 20.40.
In the final against South Africa, Deepti showcased her best performance, contributing 58 runs off 58 balls and taking 5/39 in 9.3 overs. Following her outstanding World Cup campaign, Deepti climbed to the fourth position in the ICC ODI all-rounder rankings with a rating of 392.
