“OnePlus 15R to Debut with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in India”

OnePlus is gearing up to introduce its upcoming budget-friendly flagship model, the OnePlus 15R, in India soon. Ahead of the official launch, the company has revealed that the 15R will be the first device globally to debut with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. With less than a month until the OnePlus 15R hits the market, here is a comprehensive overview to keep you informed.

Known for offering solid performance at an affordable price point, the OnePlus R series is taking a significant leap forward with the inclusion of the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC. This chipset, part of Qualcomm’s premium 8 series, positions itself just below the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 found in the OnePlus 15.

OnePlus touts that the new chipset delivers a notable 36% boost in CPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, along with an 11% increase in GPU performance and up to a 46% enhancement in AI performance. This places the OnePlus 15R as a considerably more potent device than its predecessor, the OnePlus 13R, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

In a statement, Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India, highlighted the close partnership between OnePlus and Qualcomm in bringing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Mobile Platform to the OnePlus 15R. Liu expressed his excitement for the upcoming launch, stating, “We’ve collaborated closely with Qualcomm to optimize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Mobile Platform for our users, and I look forward to the reception of the OnePlus 15R upon its release later this year.”

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is positioned as a ‘flagship killer’ by Qualcomm, featuring a 3nm build process similar to the more robust 8 Elite Gen 5. Qualcomm has introduced two 8 series chipsets this year – the premium 8 Elite Gen 5 and the more cost-effective 8 Gen 5, aimed at delivering flagship-level performance at a competitive price point.

The new chipset boasts the same Adreno 840 GPU with Frame Motion Engine 3.0 as seen in the 8 Elite Gen 5 but excludes Adreno High-Performance Memory (HPM). Additionally, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 utilizes the X80 5G Modem-RF System, similar to last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite.

The OnePlus 15R is scheduled to make its debut in India on December 17, alongside the OnePlus Pad Go 2. Available in Charcoal Black and Mint Breeze color options, the 15R, like the OnePlus 15, is expected to receive IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance.

Reports suggest that the OnePlus 15R may be a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 6T, potentially featuring a 6.7-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate and a massive 8,000mAh battery. The device is also anticipated to sport a dual-camera setup.

As for the pricing of the OnePlus 15R, details are currently unavailable. Given the price increase of the OnePlus 15 this year, it is likely that the 15R will be priced higher than its predecessor, the OnePlus 13R, which was launched in India at Rs 42,999.
