Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu revealed on Monday that she is cutting short her 2025 season due to a foot injury. Sindhu has been absent from the tour since September when she advanced to the quarterfinals of the China Masters Super 750 tournament.
Taking to social media, Sindhu confirmed that she is still recuperating from the foot injury sustained prior to the European leg of the tour. Her medical team has recommended an extended period of rest for a full recovery. Over the past two months, Sindhu has missed several significant tournaments, including the Arctic Open, Denmark Open, and French Open.
This marks Sindhu’s third early season end in four years as a result of injury concerns. The stress fracture she endured at the 2022 Commonwealth Games was a major setback that impacted her subsequent seasons.
“In consultation with my team and the guidance of Dr. Pardiwala, we have decided that it’s best for me to withdraw from all remaining BWF Tour events in 2025,” Sindhu stated in a post. She acknowledged the challenges of injuries in an athlete’s journey but expressed determination to make a strong comeback.
Recovery and training efforts are already underway under the supervision of Dr. Wayne Lombard, with support from Nisha Rawat and Chetna, and coaching guidance from Irwansyah. Sindhu expressed gratitude for the continuous support and motivation from her team and fans.
The 30-year-old showed promising signs of returning to peak form earlier this year after working with coach Irwansyah. Coaches at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy advised Sindhu to carefully plan her schedule to allow ample recovery time between events.
Despite recent struggles in winning titles, Sindhu demonstrated a strong performance by reaching the quarterfinals of the World Championships in Paris, defeating World No. 2 Wang Zhi Yi along the way. Her victory at the Syed Modi International Super 300 in 2024 ended a three-year title drought.
Sindhu’s inability to advance beyond the quarterfinal stage in tournaments this year contrasts with her previous successes, highlighting the challenges she faces in her competitive journey.
