The India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has collaborated with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to simplify processes for pensioners. This partnership allows pensioners to conveniently submit their Digital Life Certificates (DLCs) from their homes, eliminating the need to visit a bank or EPFO office.
Under the new agreement, IPPB will offer a Doorstep Service for pensioners nationwide. This service, funded entirely by EPFO, enables pensioners to obtain their Digital Life Certificates at no cost. Leveraging the extensive India Post network, including over 1.65 lakh post offices and numerous postal service providers, such as Postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks, the initiative aims to streamline the certification process.
Postal staff equipped with Doorstep Banking devices will assist pensioners in completing the authentication process through fingerprint or face recognition. This initiative is particularly beneficial for senior citizens residing in rural or semi-urban areas with limited access to banking services and EPFO offices. It eliminates the need for long travels and queue waiting, enhancing convenience for pensioners.
R. Viswesvaran, MD and CEO of IPPB, emphasized that this collaboration aligns with the bank’s objective of extending financial and citizen services to every doorstep. The partnership with EPFO supports the government’s ‘Digital India’ and ‘Ease of Living’ vision, ensuring easy access to pension and financial services for all citizens through IPPB’s reliable postal network.
The Doorstep Digital Life Certificate service is built on Jeevan Pramaan, a digital certificate that validates a pensioner’s life status through Aadhaar-based biometric verification. Initially launched in 2020, this service allowed pensioners to visit a post office or contact local postmen for verification. Upon successful verification, pensioners receive a confirmation SMS, and the certificate is available online the following day. This service has significantly benefited pensioners with mobility constraints. The recent partnership with EPFO will expand its reach to millions covered under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995.
