India’s Pratika Rawal, a prominent cricketer, has been awarded the winner’s medal for the Women’s World Cup 2025 with the help of ICC President Jay Shah. Pratika sustained an ankle injury during a crucial match against Bangladesh, forcing her to withdraw from the tournament. Consequently, Shafali Verma replaced her in the squad and played exceptionally well in the final, aiding India in clinching a 52-run victory against South Africa.
Despite not being part of the 15-member squad due to her injury, Pratika was seen without the medal during the team’s celebration at the Dr DY Patil Stadium. However, she was later spotted wearing the medal during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu, which led to confusion among fans. Pratika’s father confirmed that Jay Shah personally intervened to ensure his daughter received the deserved recognition.
Pradeep Rawal mentioned that Jay Shah personally communicated with them, assuring that Pratika would receive the medal. This gesture, although not officially commented on by the ICC or BCCI, has been well-received by fans and cricket enthusiasts. Pratika had a significant impact on India’s journey to the semi-finals of the tournament, finishing as the team’s second-highest run scorer despite missing the knockout stages.
