“India Triumphs in Women’s World Cup Final, Kapp Consoled by Teammates”

India celebrated a historic victory in the Women’s World Cup, while South Africa faced disappointment after losing by 52 runs in Sunday’s final at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Amid India’s jubilant moments, a touching scene unfolded as Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav consoled a saddened Marizanne Kapp, who was in her fifth ODI World Cup appearance.

The significance of this gesture was deep-rooted, considering that Radha, Jemimah, and Kapp are teammates at the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The trio has been instrumental in DC’s journey to the final in all three editions of the WPL. However, Kapp had a tough day in the World Cup final, remaining wicketless and scoring only four runs before being dismissed by Shafali Verma.

Kapp had a remarkable performance at the 2025 Women’s World Cup, emerging as South Africa’s standout all-rounder. In the semi-final against England, she showcased her bowling prowess by taking 5 wickets for 20 runs in seven overs, including a double-wicket maiden, leading her team to the final. This exceptional spell also saw her surpass Jhulan Goswami to become the highest wicket-taker in Women’s World Cup history.

Her batting contributions were equally impressive, notably scoring a crucial 42 runs in the semi-final and an unbeaten 68 off 43 balls earlier in the tournament. With a total of 44 wickets and 659 runs across 31 World Cup matches since her debut in 2009, Kapp has established herself as a versatile performer in women’s cricket.
