“Former Nepal PM Oli Accuses Interim Govt of Unjust Arrest Attempts”

Former Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli recently accused the interim government of trying to arrest him unjustly, claiming that the current administration is not fully committed to organizing the upcoming general elections set for March 5, 2026. Oli expressed these concerns during a meeting with editors and senior journalists in Kathmandu, over a month after stepping down in response to protests led by young people.

The CPN-UML chairperson criticized the government’s alleged attempts to detain him without legal justification, emphasizing that the authorities are using power to target political rivals instead of focusing on democratic principles. Oli stated that his party would push for the restoration of the dissolved House of Representatives.

Following Oli’s resignation, former chief justice Sushila Karki assumed the role of interim prime minister on September 12, with President Ramchandra Paudel dissolving parliament based on her advice. Oli criticized the interim government, labeling it unconstitutional and denouncing the reduction of his security detail despite ongoing safety concerns.

Oli also revealed that he was rescued by the Nepal Army from his official residence in Baluwatar after being attacked by protesters following his removal from office. He criticized the Gen Z movement, claiming it was influenced by external actors and accusing it of inciting violence during demonstrations.

Despite facing criticism, Oli affirmed his commitment to politics and his party leadership role, asserting that he could potentially return to power if supported by the electorate. He highlighted the importance of his continued involvement in national and societal development.

After remaining secluded in an army camp outside Kathmandu post-resignation, Oli reemerged at a party meeting in Bhaktapur district, signaling his intent to stay active in political affairs.
