“Fatal California Crash: Truck Driver’s Drug Impairment Revealed”

A video from a vehicle’s dashboard camera has surfaced, showing a 21-year-old truck driver of Indian descent causing a fatal crash on a busy California freeway. The driver, Jashanpreet Singh, was reportedly impaired by drugs at the time of the incident and failed to brake before colliding with several vehicles, resulting in three fatalities and four injuries.

Contrary to initial reports, it has been clarified that Singh was not driving under the influence of alcohol. However, he has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated after tests confirmed his impairment. Singh, originally from Yuba City, California, was taken into custody following the tragic collision.

The accident occurred near the junction of I-10 and I-15 freeways in Ontario, California, where Singh’s tractor-trailer crashed into an SUV and multiple other vehicles without slowing down, leading to a fiery chain-reaction collision involving eight vehicles, including commercial trucks. Emergency responders transported four injured individuals to hospitals, while three lost their lives in the crash.

Subsequently, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency issued a detainer against Jashanpreet Singh, identifying him as an undocumented immigrant from India who entered the US illegally in early 2022. Singh, who lacks lawful immigration status, remains detained in San Bernardino County pending further legal proceedings.

In a separate incident in August, another Indian immigrant, Harjinder Singh, who entered the US illegally in 2018, was involved in a fatal crash in Fort Pierce, Florida, killing three individuals. Harjinder Singh, who possessed a California commercial driver’s license, faced scrutiny for not meeting English proficiency and road sign comprehension requirements.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy highlighted concerns about language proficiency among truck drivers, emphasizing the importance of ensuring drivers can read road signs and communicate effectively. Duffy’s statement underscored the need for stricter enforcement of English language requirements to enhance road safety.

The tragic events involving both Jashanpreet Singh and Harjinder Singh underscore the importance of upholding regulations and standards for commercial drivers to prevent similar incidents in the future.
