Devoted Mahakaleshwar Temple Visitor Dies During Diwali Darshan

A visitor at Ujjain’s famous Mahakaleshwar Temple, who came for the customary Monday darshan, passed away due to a heart attack in the early hours, as per authorities. Saurabhraj Soni, residing in Parshvnath City, Ujjain, reached the temple at 1 am on Monday, Diwali night, to take part in the sacred Bhasma Aarti, a weekly ritual observed during the pre-dawn Brahma Muhurata. Unfortunately, Soni suffered from a sudden cardiac arrest near Gate Number 1 before completing his visit. Temple staff and companions promptly took him to a nearby hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Friends and relatives mentioned that Soni had a premonition of his demise. He had shared a WhatsApp status hours before the tragedy, stating, “The body is made of clay, breaths are borrowed, the heart belongs to Mahakal, we are merely tenants.”

Soni managed a tea shop in Ujjain’s Freeganj locality and was recognized for his steadfast devotion to Lord Mahakal. Every Monday, he ensured to attend the Bhasma Aarti. On Diwali this year, he came for one final prayer, passing away within the sacred premises of the temple.
