“China Supports Pakistan-Afghanistan Ceasefire for Regional Peace”

China has expressed its approval of the recent 48-hour ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan following a period of intense cross-border clashes. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, commended both countries for choosing to halt hostilities and engage in discussions for a sustainable peace. Lin emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue in serving the mutual interests of Pakistan and Afghanistan while contributing to regional peace and stability. China stands ready to support these efforts and encourages both nations to maintain composure and exercise restraint, highlighting that dialogue is the key to achieving a lasting ceasefire.

In addition, China reaffirmed its commitment to playing a constructive role in reducing tensions between Islamabad and Kabul. Through a tripartite consultation mechanism involving Chinese, Pakistani, and Afghan officials, Beijing aims to address security and economic challenges along the shared border. China’s neutral stance in South Asia’s conflicts positions it as a facilitator, particularly in light of Pakistan’s accusations against the Taliban-led Afghan government for allegedly sheltering militant groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).

Meanwhile, in Islamabad, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed willingness to engage in talks with Afghanistan under conditions that are deemed legitimate and mutually respectful. Sharif clarified that Pakistan’s acceptance of the ceasefire was in response to a request from Afghanistan, underscoring Kabul’s role in choosing the path towards peace. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to seeking dialogue for peaceful resolutions, while attributing recent military responses to Afghan Taliban leadership’s alleged preference for aggression over peace efforts.

Conversely, the Taliban government in Kabul refuted Pakistan’s claims, arguing that Pakistan’s internal challenges and unilateral military actions, including cross-border airstrikes, have exacerbated tensions. The differing perspectives highlight the complex dynamics at play in the region, with both sides emphasizing the need for diplomatic solutions to prevent further escalation of hostilities.
