Indian cricketer R Ashwin sparked discussions on social media with a mysterious post that many believe was directed at fellow player Virat Kohli following Kohli’s disappointing performance in the Adelaide ODI against Australia. Kohli’s departure for a four-ball duck marked a disappointing end to his innings at one of his preferred venues.
Despite India posting a total of 264 runs, Australia managed to chase it down with two wickets to spare. Speculations arose among fans about Kohli’s future in cricket, particularly after he raised his gloves while walking back to the pavilion.
After the Adelaide ODI, Ashwin shared a cryptic image featuring the logo of the renowned sportswear brand Nike. The image showcased a modified version of the brand’s iconic tagline ‘Just Do It,’ with the Nike tick incorporating the Indian flag.
The post by Ashwin, captioned ‘just leave it,’ led fans to question if the message was aimed at Kohli. Many fans directly asked Ashwin about the intended recipient of the message. The social media reactions to Ashwin’s post reflected the curiosity and speculation surrounding the cryptic message.
Ashwin has yet to clarify the true meaning behind his tweet, leaving fans to engage in conjecture and discussions on social media platforms.
In a statement preceding the Australia tour, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar emphasized that subjecting Kohli and Rohit Sharma to continuous scrutiny in every match would be unreasonable. Agarkar highlighted that while their performances would be evaluated, they were not under trial.
Agarkar expressed, “It will be silly to put them on trial for every game. Once they start playing, they will be assessed, but they are not on trial.” He further added, “It doesn’t mean if they don’t get runs in Australia, they would be dropped, and similarly, if they score three tons in Australia, they would be selected for the 2027 World Cup.”
The Indian team is set to compete in the final ODI in Sydney on Saturday, October 25. The ongoing discussions surrounding Kohli’s form and Ashwin’s cryptic post have stirred anticipation and speculation within the cricketing community and among fans.
