“US Tech Force: Govt Initiative Offers Engineers Lucrative Path”

The US government has introduced a new hiring initiative, the United States Tech Force, providing a unique opportunity for aspiring engineers to enter the tech industry through the public sector. This program aims to recruit approximately 1,000 individuals in its initial phase, offering competitive pay packages reaching nearly Rs 1.6 crore annually. Selected candidates will work as full-time government employees within federal agencies on significant technology projects, rather than directly joining startup or tech companies.

Led by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and various government agencies, the program will focus on modernizing systems in areas such as artificial intelligence, software development, cybersecurity, data analytics, and technical project management. Notably, the initiative has garnered support from 28 tech companies including Apple, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Meta, and others. These partners will provide training, mentorship, and exposure opportunities through executive speaker sessions without immediate hiring commitments.

OPM Director Scott Kupor emphasized the program’s goal of building a robust talent pipeline, allowing private firms to engage with participants before potential job offers. The roles are projected to offer annual salaries ranging from $130,000 to $195,000, approximately translating to Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.6 crore, with no strict degree or experience prerequisites. Interested candidates can apply through the USA Jobs portal, undergoing technical assessments, interviews, and background verification processes.

Although most positions will be based in Washington, DC, remote or hybrid work arrangements may be considered based on the role and department requirements. The program is open to both early-career professionals and experienced engineering managers nominated by their companies. Tech Force participants will serve as full-time government staff, complying with federal ethics regulations, and are expected to smoothly transition back to their original companies post-program.

The government aims to finalize the first round of hiring by the end of March, intending to establish Tech Force as an annual initiative. The success of the program could lead to future expansions, providing tech professionals with a rare opportunity to contribute to the US government while maintaining connections within the private tech sector.
