The government of Andhra Pradesh has unveiled a special reward for young cricketer Shree Charani, who played a pivotal role in India securing its first Women’s World Cup victory in 2025. The state will present her with a cash prize of Rs 2.5 crore, a Group-I government position, and a 1,000 sq. yard residential plot in Kadapa, her hometown.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu disclosed this initiative following a meeting with Charani upon her return from Delhi. He commended her outstanding performances at the World Cup, stating that her accomplishments were a source of pride for Andhra Pradesh. Charani was also honored at a modest event where she recounted her involvement in India’s historic 50-over World Cup triumph.
Charani’s progression to this significant achievement has been extraordinary. Despite making her international debut in April at the age of 21, the left-arm spinner became one of India’s most dependable bowlers throughout the tournament. She concluded with 14 wickets, delivering crucial performances in numerous matches. In the final against South Africa, her dismissal of Anneke Bosch for zero provided India with a vital breakthrough, aiding the team in regaining control of the game.
Her homecoming was met with a warm reception. At Gannavaram airport, representatives from the Andhra Cricket Association, state officials, and fans congregated to welcome her. Charani hails from Kadapa, where her family has encountered financial challenges, yet her talent and determination propelled her towards success. She ascended through local and state teams, ultimately earning a spot in the national squad. Her rapid ascent and impact in her inaugural World Cup have positioned her as a role model for aspiring cricketers across Andhra Pradesh.
