In a significant setback to illegal drug operations, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has disrupted an extensive narcotics production and distribution network operating in Delhi and the National Capital Region, as per a statement released on Friday. During a well-coordinated multi-day operation conducted from October 21 to 23, the agency conducted a large-scale drug seizure valued at around Rs 108.81 crore in the global market and apprehended 26 foreign nationals.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI teams raided a clandestine methamphetamine manufacturing facility located at an isolated farm near high-rise residential complexes in Greater Noida. The raid resulted in the seizure of 11.40 kg of amphetamine and 110.923 kg of precursor chemicals used in synthetic drug production. Simultaneously, the agency apprehended the syndicate’s primary operator in Gurugram, recovering 1.33 kg of amphetamine from his possession.
Following leads, DRI officials discovered another site in West Delhi suspected of being used for narcotics storage and distribution. The area, nestled in a heavily populated region with narrow lanes, presented notable operational and security challenges. Despite resistance from numerous individuals attempting to impede the operation, DRI teams, aided by Delhi Police, managed to secure the area and conduct a thorough search.
The West Delhi raid yielded 7.79 kg of cocaine, 1.87 kg of heroin, 3.54 kg of amphetamine, 2 kg of ganja, and 0.15 kg of methaqualone, in addition to 4.50 kg of precursor chemicals. Officials also confiscated Rs 37 lakh in cash suspected to be linked to drug trafficking proceeds. Overall, DRI seized a total of 16.27 kg of amphetamine, 7.9 kg of cocaine, 1.8 kg of heroin, 2.13 kg of ganja, and 115.42 kg of precursor chemicals, amounting to an estimated value of Rs 108.81 crore in the illicit international market.
Describing the operation as one of the most intricate and well-coordinated enforcement actions of recent times, DRI officials highlighted the agency’s emphasis on intelligence-driven operations and collaborative efforts across agencies. The agency emphasized its continued dedication to combating narcotics smuggling and synthetic drug production and stated that further investigations are ongoing.
