Zoho’s widely used messaging application, which recently garnered attention in app stores, has slipped from the top 100 ranks on both Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. Despite this decline in position, Zoho Founder Sridhar Vembu remains unfazed, stating that this fluctuation in Arattai’s ranking is a natural part of product evolution. Vembu emphasizes that the company’s current focus is on developing enduring technology for Arattai rather than chasing after temporary hype.
During a recent interview with ANI, Vembu addressed the drop in Arattai’s ranking, emphasizing that such fluctuations are expected when striving to build sustainable technology. He dismisses any concerns about the ranking, stating that ups and downs are a normal course of events and that sustained growth is Zoho’s strategic priority, steering clear of fixating on short-term metrics.
Vembu cautioned against interpreting spikes in app store rankings as lasting success, emphasizing the importance of a long-term perspective for companies to thrive. He highlighted Zoho’s global presence and revenue sources outside India, stressing the necessity of enhancing technological capabilities domestically to drive value addition and innovation.
Furthermore, Vembu expressed openness to fostering competition in the messaging sector by welcoming initiatives that could facilitate third-party app integration on existing platforms. He believes that promoting credible competition is essential to prevent monopolies and points to signals from other messaging platforms suggesting a potential opening up of ecosystems to third-party apps.
Addressing concerns about end-to-end encryption on Arattai, Vembu confirmed plans for a phased rollout, citing technical challenges related to device-level encryption and reliable backups. He assured that device-based encryption will be introduced soon, with cloud backups designed to safeguard chat history while maintaining content security in the pipeline.
In response to layoffs in the tech industry, Vembu criticized the trend of routine job cuts and underscored the importance of earning employee loyalty through reciprocal commitment and loyalty from employers. He emphasized the need for companies to prioritize fostering a culture of mutual dedication to ensure employee loyalty and longevity.
