Two villagers were reportedly attacked and killed by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district late on Friday night. The incident occurred in Nela Kanker village within the Basaguda police station area. The victims, identified as 25-year-old Ravi Kattam and 38-year-old Tirupati Sodhi, both residents of Nela Kanker, were fatally assaulted with a sharp-edged weapon.
Authorities were alerted to the incident on the night of October 24 and are currently in the process of verifying the information. Dr. Jitendra Yadav, Superintendent of Police in Bijapur, confirmed the incident, stating, “We have received such information and are currently verifying it.”
This tragic event coincided with heightened anti-Naxalite operations in the Bastar region by security forces. The government has a target to eradicate Naxalism from the state by March 2026. Teams from the Usur police station have been deployed to the location, initiating an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the attack.
