Google and OpenAI have made changes to their free AI tool usage policies. Users who rely on the free plans of Gemini 3 Pro and Sora will now face limitations in creating images and videos. The restrictions are attributed to high demand and increasing GPU costs.
Gemini 3 Pro previously allowed five free prompts per day and up to three image generations using Nano Banana Pro. However, the latest update introduces a more restricted access level with fixed daily limits on image creation for free users. On the other hand, Google AI Plan subscribers maintain their existing allowances, with Google AI Pro offering 100 prompts per day and Google AI Ultra providing 500 prompts for the Thinking model.
Free users can now generate only two images per day using Nano Banana Pro, while Google AI Pro subscribers have a daily limit of 100 images and Google AI Ultra users can create up to 1,000 images each day.
OpenAI has also imposed limitations on Sora 2, restricting free users to generating only six video creations daily. Bill Peebles, the head of Sora at OpenAI, explained the decision on social media, citing high GPU usage as a reason for the usage limits to ensure broader access to Sora. Previously, the company had restricted free access to 30 video generations per day on Sora, offering additional video tokens for purchase at $4 per 10 generations. ChatGPT Plus subscribers continue to have a 30-video daily limit, while ChatGPT Pro users can generate up to 100 videos per day.
