The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Union Home Ministry (MHA), successfully oversaw the repatriation of fugitive Lakhvinder Kumar from the United States on Saturday. Kumar, who is wanted by Haryana Police for various offenses such as extortion, intimidation, illegal firearm possession, and attempted murder, is reportedly associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
A Red Notice for Kumar was issued by Interpol on October 26, 2024, at the behest of Haryana Police. Following this, he was deported from the US and upon his arrival at Delhi Airport, he was taken into custody by Haryana Police.
A CBI official commented on the operation, stating, “Red Notices issued by Interpol are disseminated globally to aid in the tracking of wanted fugitives. As the national central bureau for Interpol in India, the CBI collaborates with law enforcement agencies nationwide through Bharatpol to seek assistance via international channels.” The CBI highlighted that more than 130 fugitives have been successfully repatriated to India in recent years through similar coordinated efforts.
The repatriation of Kumar underscores the continuous endeavors of Indian authorities to ensure accountability in severe criminal cases, particularly those involving organized crime syndicates. This operation reaffirms India’s dedication to international collaboration in locating and bringing back wanted criminals.
