Hyderabad authorities are taking action after a counterfeit voter list featuring renowned actors Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Rakul Preet Singh circulated on social media. The Madhura Nagar Police initiated a case following confirmation from election officials that the viral content contained manipulated images and falsified voter ID information.
Assistant Electoral Registration Officer Syed Yahiya Kamal lodged a complaint stating that the fake posts alleged the actors were registered voters sharing an address in Hyderabad using doctored Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers. Officials suspect this misinformation was intentionally disseminated to deceive the public and exploit official electoral data.
The police have registered a case under Sections 336(4) and 353(1)(C) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for forgery with malicious intent and public mischief. Efforts are underway to track the source of the posts and identify the individuals responsible for their circulation.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) cautioned against sharing unverified information, emphasizing that legal consequences could follow such actions. With the Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll approaching on November 11 and counting on November 14, officials advised the public to rely solely on validated data provided by the Election Commission’s official channels.
