Apple has introduced Tap to Pay on iPhone in Hong Kong, expanding its seamless payment solution to a new region. This feature enables thousands of businesses, ranging from cafes to high-end boutiques, to accept contactless payments directly on their iPhones without the need for additional hardware. By utilizing the built-in NFC technology on iPhone 11 or newer models running the latest iOS version, merchants can securely process payments from credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets with just a tap.
Through Tap to Pay, even small or mobile businesses like hairdressers, food trucks, and taxi drivers can now accept contactless payments without investing in separate payment terminals or point-of-sale systems. This move is expected to enhance the adoption of digital payments across various sectors in Hong Kong.
Starting from December 9, major payment platforms such as Adyen, Global Payments, KPay, and SoPay have become the first to support Tap to Pay on iPhone in Hong Kong. This allows merchants in industries like retail, beauty, food and beverage, professional services, and transport to easily accept payments through their iPhones.
Tap to Pay on iPhone supports Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and various digital wallets on major networks such as American Express, JCB, Mastercard, UnionPay, and Visa. This wide compatibility ensures a seamless payment experience for both local consumers and international visitors, regardless of the card or device they use.
In essence, Tap to Pay on iPhone transforms every iPhone into a payment terminal, streamlining the checkout process and emphasizing Apple’s commitment to convenience with just a simple tap.
