Indian fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur was warmly welcomed back to her ancestral village, Parsa, in the Rohru subdivision of Shimla district after India’s victory at the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup. Recognized for her significant role in securing the nation’s first Women’s World Cup win with three crucial wickets, Renuka was honored by villagers and local authorities in a touching ceremony. She was pleasantly surprised with a documentary capturing her journey from Himachal Pradesh to global cricket, a gesture that deeply touched her.
Expressing her happiness, Renuka expressed gratitude for the thoughtful documentary made in her honor, considering it the best gift she could receive. Earlier in the day, she visited the Hateshwari Mata Temple in Hatkoti to offer prayers and acknowledge the support of her mother and uncle in identifying her talent and providing unwavering support.
Renuka’s journey is marked by resilience and inner strength, shaped by the loss of her father at a young age and her mother’s relentless efforts in raising her and her brother. She acknowledged the pivotal roles played by her coaches, uncle Bhupinder Singh Thakur, and the community in her success, emphasizing the importance of timely guidance and support.
Reflecting on the challenges faced during the tournament, Renuka recalled the pressure of consecutive losses before the team’s triumphant turnaround. She believes that the World Cup victory will serve as a catalyst for encouraging parents to nurture their daughters’ sporting aspirations, inspiring more families to take sports seriously.
Acknowledging the support of the Himachal Pradesh government, Renuka expressed gratitude for the recognition and rewards bestowed upon her, including a cash prize and a government job. Her inspiring journey from a small village to international cricket symbolizes India’s evolving commitment to women’s sports, resonating with the belief in empowering female athletes.
