“Pakistan Cricket Board Yet to Decide on Women’s Team Coach”

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to finalize the appointment of a new head coach for the national women’s team following their disappointing performance in the World Cup, which was won by India. Speculation arose about former fast bowler Wahab Riaz potentially taking on a role as a consultant or head coach for the women’s team, but the PCB has swiftly dismissed these rumors.

An official clarified that while Wahab has been serving as a consultant with various PCB teams, he has not been assigned any new role at present. The PCB recently decided not to renew the contract of former test batsman Muhammad Wasim as the head coach of the women’s team. Reports suggest that the PCB is currently in talks with two foreign coaches for potential collaboration with the women’s team, although no agreements have been reached yet.

If discussions with the foreign coaches do not materialize, the PCB may consider local options, with former women’s team captain Bismah Maroof being a prominent candidate. While Wahab might be considered as a potential head coach for the women’s team if other options fall through, he has expressed interest in taking on the challenge. Pakistan’s women’s team finished at the bottom of the World Cup standings, even trailing behind Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, with four losses and three matches affected by rain in Colombo.
