The incident took place during a public appearance at Lichfield Cathedral in Staffordshire, where the monarch was greeted by royal fans. The protester questioned the King about his knowledge of Andrew and Epstein, inquiring if he had requested police intervention on Andrew’s behalf and if Members of Parliament should discuss the royals in the House of Commons.
The protester’s interruption was met with vocal support for the King, with bystanders urging the protester to be quiet and expressing cheers and support for the monarch. Despite the disruption, the King continued to interact with the crowd, even receiving a hug request from a royal fan. Many onlookers outside the cathedral appeared visibly irked by the protester, with one individual advising him to leave the King alone.
Prince Andrew, aged 65, has been under significant scrutiny due to his ties with Epstein. Recently, Andrew announced his decision to relinquish all royal titles, including that of Duke of York, with the approval of King Charles. The move came after discussions with the King and his family, aiming to address distractions caused by ongoing accusations against him.
Although Andrew has withdrawn from royal duties and renounced his titles, public interest in him and the royal family has surged. Allegations against Andrew have been reignited by Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir, where she accused him of sexually abusing her as a teenager. The Liberal Democrats have called for Andrew to clarify his lease terms for his Windsor residence before Members of Parliament. However, the government has declined to schedule a parliamentary debate on the matter, despite mounting demands for transparency and accountability.
