Serbian football is mourning the sudden death of coach Mladen Zizovic, who passed away at the age of 44 during a league match on Monday, November 11. Zizovic was managing FK Radnicki 1923 in their Serbian top-tier game against FK Mladost Lucani when he collapsed on the sidelines in the 22nd minute.
Despite immediate medical attention and transportation to a nearby hospital, Zizovic could not be saved. The news of his untimely death was confirmed while the match was still in progress, leading the referee to halt the game in the 41st minute. Both teams’ players and staff were visibly distraught, with emotional scenes unfolding on the field. The match, with Radnicki ahead 2–0, was abandoned and will be rescheduled.
Zizovic had recently taken the helm at Radnicki, having been appointed less than two weeks before the tragic incident. Notably, he guided FK Borac Banja Luka to the last-16 of the UEFA Europa Conference League in the previous season, narrowly losing 3–2 on aggregate to Rapid Vienna.
The Serbian Super League expressed deep sorrow over Zizovic’s passing, extending condolences to his loved ones and the football community. FK Radnicki 1923 also honored their coach, highlighting his professionalism and kindness, stating that his love for the game and compassionate nature will always be cherished.
