Delhi residents are set to benefit from an initiative that aims to help them reclaim funds from forgotten bank accounts, old insurance policies, and dormant investments. The Delhi government has disclosed plans to conduct special camps throughout the city to facilitate the process of identifying and retrieving unclaimed financial assets.
This effort aligns with the ongoing nationwide campaign titled ‘Apki Punji, Apka Adhikar’ initiated by the Central Government to empower individuals by reuniting them with their unclaimed funds. The campaign targets financial assets that often go untouched for extended periods, such as dormant bank accounts, uncollected insurance payouts, incomplete KYC details on mutual fund units, and overlooked pension funds.
Typically, unclaimed amounts are transferred to designated funds until rightful claimants come forward. During a recent event in New Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the government’s commitment to this cause, highlighting that approximately Rs 80 crore has already been repatriated to citizens nationwide.
To streamline the process for residents, the Delhi government will conduct outreach camps to assist individuals in verifying if they have any unclaimed financial assets. Working closely with banks, officials will provide guidance on the necessary paperwork and verification procedures to facilitate fund retrieval.
Gupta noted that many people lose track of their funds due to outdated contact information, missed claim deadlines, or lack of awareness about funds lying idle. The planned camps aim to simplify the search process, offering comprehensive support to families who often struggle with the tedious and complex task of locating unclaimed money.
Reclaiming forgotten deposits can offer crucial financial relief to households, particularly in times of high inflation and borrowing costs. It also mitigates the risks associated with fraud or misuse related to neglected accounts. Financial advisors recommend keeping banking and investment records up to date, ensuring accurate KYC details, and adding nominees to all accounts. With the upcoming launch of these camps in Delhi, numerous residents will have a convenient and accessible avenue to reconnect with funds that have remained out of sight for years.
