India’s star of the World Cup, Jemimah Rodrigues, has playfully reminded cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar of his promise to sing a duet following India’s historic Women’s ODI World Cup victory. Rodrigues took to Instagram to share a light-hearted video expressing her eagerness to sing together with Gavaskar, keeping his pre-final commitment alive.
Before the World Cup final against South Africa, Gavaskar had mentioned in an interview with India Today that he would join Rodrigues in a song if India emerged as the champions. Now that India has clinched the trophy, Rodrigues is looking forward to holding Gavaskar to his musical pledge.
In a video posted on Instagram, Rodrigues addressed Gavaskar directly, affirming her readiness with a guitar and urging him to prepare with a microphone as per their agreement. What initially began as a casual remark has transformed into an exciting challenge following India’s remarkable triumph at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Rodrigues’ journey to this pinnacle moment was marked by her outstanding performance in the semi-final against Australia, where she played a crucial role in India’s successful chase of 339 runs with an unbeaten 127 off 134 balls. Despite a modest contribution in the final match, her fielding prowess and on-field energy were commendable. India’s victory of 52 runs over South Africa secured their first-ever ODI World Cup title, ending a long wait for success.
This potential duet between Rodrigues and Gavaskar wouldn’t be their first musical collaboration, as they had previously shared a musical moment at the BCCI Naman Awards in 2024. With India now crowned as world champions, fans eagerly anticipate another musical performance from this dynamic cricketing duo.
