Young Batsman Dewald Brevis Out of ODI Series

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced that Dewald Brevis, a promising young batsman, will be absent from the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan due to a minor shoulder muscle strain. The injury was sustained during the third T20I in Lahore, where Brevis displayed discomfort while fielding. Following medical evaluations, it was determined that he needs rest and rehabilitation instead of immediate match participation.

CSA disclosed in a statement on November 4th that Brevis will undergo a carefully managed recovery process under the guidance of the Proteas medical team. The focus is on ensuring his full fitness for the upcoming tour of India, which includes a two-match Test series known for its physical demands, especially on batsmen. Brevis is considered a crucial component of South Africa’s Test squad as they aim to strengthen their lineup.

An announcement regarding Brevis’ replacement in the ODI squad is forthcoming, as selectors evaluate player form, fitness, and team balance in preparation for the series opener.

Recognized as one of the most promising talents in South African cricket, Brevis has impressed across different formats for the national team in recent months. His aggressive batting style and impressive skills have drawn comparisons to the legendary AB de Villiers. Additionally, he made a notable impact during the 2025 IPL season with the Chennai Super Kings, showcasing his abilities as an injury replacement.

While fans may be disappointed by his absence against Pakistan in the ODI series, CSA remains positive about Brevis’ recovery progress. The Pakistan series will proceed as planned, but Brevis’ primary focus is on ensuring his peak condition for the crucial Test series in India.
